Where The Shadows Break

Chapter 43 of 51

Living the Change

The morning after the prayer meeting, the household stirred with its usual rhythm. Miriam watched Caleb closely, wondering if the peace he had felt would carry into daily life.

At breakfast, Ruth spilled her porridge, and David laughed loudly. In the past, Caleb might have snapped, his temper flaring. But this time, he paused, took a breath, and spoke softly. "It's alright, Ruth. Let's clean it together."

Ruth's eyes widened in surprise, then softened with gratitude. "Thank you, Caleb."

Later, Esther struggled with her schoolwork, her pencil scratching angrily across the page. Caleb sat beside her, his voice calm. "Don't rush. Let me show you." He guided her hand gently, his patience steady. Esther smiled faintly, whispering, "You're different, Caleb. Kinder."

Samuel noticed too. "You're learning to lead with peace, not anger," he said firmly. "That's strength."

Caleb's voice cracked, but his eyes shone with quiet pride. "I don't know if I'm strong yet. But I feel... lighter. Like I can breathe."

Miriam's tears welled as she whispered a prayer in her heart: *"Lord, let this kindness grow. Let my son's patience be the fruit of his surrender, and let his healing shine in the love he shows at home."*

That night, Caleb sat with his siblings, laughing softly as they told stories. For the first time in years, the home felt whole, the shadows pushed back by the warmth of his presence.
